The Soeun house is located in the center of Toero village, Bubuk-myeon, Miryang city, Gyeong-Sang-Nam-do province in South Korea. So Eun House is an old house with a history of more than 200 years and it was designated as a cultural heritage by the local government.
This house is a typical Korean-style house for noblemen in the southern region of the late Joseon Dynasty. It had six buildings but now four buildings are preserved. Currenly, the house consists of sarang-chae(men's area), An-chae (main building, women's area), Dae-mun-che (main gate), and Jnng-mun-cahe (second gate).
It was built over 200 years ago by a high-ranking official during the Joseon Dynasty, and Yi, Tae-hyeong baught it and moved there in 1936 to support his parents who lived the next door. The name of the house (Soeun) came from the pen name of Tae-hyeong Yi.
Currently this old house is preserved and managed by the family of Taehyung Yi's great-grandson. The homeowners are trying to strike a balance between preserving the heritage and sharing it with the many visitors who want to see and learn about it. Currently, the owner is operating a limited number of accommodations and traditional Korean culture experience programs at Soeun Old House for domestic and foreign visitors.
The postal address of the house is:
14 Toero 2gil, bubuk-myeon, Miryang-si, Gyeongsang-nam-do.
You can experience a true old-fashioned Korean house, not an artificially built house for hospitality business. Experience a refreshing sleep in a hanok made of wood, soil, and stone.
Simple breakfast is provided, and traditional culture experiences such as tea ceremony, hanbok, and wooden board pressing are also available at half price for international visitors.
The Soeun House has a large-sized sarang room with traditional Ondol, a middle-sized sarang room, a private modern toilet, a kitchen and living room, , and a large courtyard (outdoor barbecue place is available), and the scenery beyond the windows.
The benefits of Soeun House are a healing experience that combines the interior of the accommodation and the old house itself, including a large courtyard and a garden of more than 1,200 square meters area, as well as the surrounding environment (adjacent cultural assets), Wiyangyangji, 5 minutes away, and cafes with lake view and Korean restaurants.
"The place is simply amazing! An old traditional Hanok, beautifully renovated. Very comfortable with plenty of space for our family of 4. Modern bathroom with all the amenities you need. Very comfortable futon beds. The host picked us up and dropped us to the train station. The surrounding is stunning. In the middle of a traditional Hanok village. So beautiful and picturesque. Some very nice coffee shops and restaurants close by. And the host are wonderful people; so nice and very welcoming. They speak good English and it was easy to communicate with them. There, you can try the Hanbok (traditional clothes), do a tea ceremony, learn about Korean culture and history, and do many more activities. Some activities are free of charge, and some have a small fee. If you want to discover real Korea, meet some genuine Korean people and learn about their culture and history, this is the place. We had an amazing time. Definitely the highlight of our 3 weeks in Korea."
